The Easiest Ways To Add Space To A Small Bedroom

If you have recently moved into a new home with a small bedroom you may feel like you are dealing with a room that is the size of a large closet. You don’t have to succumb to these size constraints however; you can work with this room to make it appear larger.

Downsize the furniture
Get rid of any oversized dressers, night tables and chairs. If your bed is clunky it will have to be downsized as well. There are a lot of modern bed types that are made of metal that don’t take up a lot of room, or you can think of getting a futon.

If there are two single beds occupying a lot of space you can get twin sized bunk beds to add a lot more space. These twin sized bunk beds can also be purchased as a twin overhead with a futon at the bottom. This will free up a lot more floor space during the day.

Use mirrors
Mirrors are the quickest way to get a room to appear larger than it really is. Place a couple of mirrors in strategic spots in the room to create the desired effect.

Pull out the furniture
Try this to see for yourself the difference it will make. Don’t set any of the furniture right up against the wall. Pull it out at least three inches and the room will open up. You’d expect the opposite effect to take place but this tip really works – your room will appear more spacious!

Take away area carpets
Sometimes an area carpet can add a cluttered feeling to a room that is quite small in size. If you have a rug currently sitting in the room remove it and take a look at the room with a new viewpoint. You’ll see that taking it away adds some space back to the room.

If you have a small bedroom to work with, don’t be afraid to rearrange the furniture to see which layout opens up the room the most. A lot will depend on the dimensions of the room and the furniture you are working with. You’ll see, however, that with a little care and patience, it is easy to make a room appear larger than it really is.
