The Appeal of Traditional Christmas Trees
Of all the many symbols of Christmas, none evoke more warm, happy memories than traditional Christmas trees. Long a part of western culture, Christmas trees are an essential element of the season’s celebrations. Whether fresh cut or artificial, their appeal is irresistible to both young and old.
Originally adorned with fruits, nuts, and flowers, Christmas trees are now more commonly decorated with lights, ribbons, garlands, glass ornaments, and handmade treasures. Family traditions abound with delightful evenings centered on making ornaments and decorating trees.
Years later, the mere view of a tree proudly displayed in a home’s window harken us back to many happy childhood memories of those evenings and to the joyous excitement of a Christmas morning under it’s branches, discovering the brightly wrapped gifts beneath. We re-experience the heady aromas of eggnog and cider, cookies baking in the oven. The sound of the crackling fire and Christmas carols. And we see once again the glittery sparkle of light dancing off the shiny ornaments.
For many, there is no substitute for the beauty of a real, freshly cut tree, for others, preference is for the convenience of an artificial tree. Whether fresh or artificial, tall or short, narrow or full, the old-fashioned appeal of traditional Christmas trees will always hold a special place in hearts and homes. Special memories for both children and adults are created during this special time of the year.
