Step By Step How To Remove A Door Knob

Perhaps you’ve moved into a new home and you want to make it more your style, changing door hardware can be a quick and easy way to do this. Or maybe you’re just bored with your current door knobs and just want a change.

Changing a door knob isn’t a difficult job, and it certainly doesn’t require a handyman to come round! As long as you have the correct tools it’ll be done in no time.

Tools:

Screwdriver

Phillips screwdriver

Step one:

First of all you need to remove the trim, for those of you who don’t know, the trim of the doorknob is the ring shaped bit of metal behind the door handle and in between both of the door knobs.

Step two:

There are normally two screws that hold the trim in place, remove these now. If there are no screws, you will have to very carefully slide the screwdriver under the trim and pry it apart from the wood.

Step three:

Now you’ve taken the trim off you should see two long screws that hold the door knobs in place, remove both of these.

Step four:

Now pull the door knobs apart from the door.

Step five:

Now we need to remove the door lock, you should see two screws securing it in position, remove both of these and the lock.

Your door should now be door knob free and ready to have a new one fitted! For a great selection of door knobs, check out Love Handles.
