Empty Nest? Fill it with Contemporary Furniture
The world as we knew it has changed & being over 40 these days is no guarantee that someone will settle into their armchair with pipe & slippers! Instead of acting like their parents the over 40’s often have more in common with their own children, with busy social lives & a keen interest in contemporary music, design & art.
At the same time their children are just starting to leave home for university & lives of their own, & rather than taking that as a cue for settling into retirement people are deciding to reinvent their lives, discovering travel to exotic locations, adventure & new pastimes.
When the last of the children leaves home also one of the first things people often do is take a good look at their home & decide it needs a complete revamp, whether in readiness for their re invigorated social life or simply because they are bored with it – after all chances are it’s been pretty much the same for a long time.
Furniture no longer needs to be bought with grubby little fingers in mind, & one of the things many parents do (if they can afford it) is fill their homes up with contemporary furniture. It’s the exact opposite of their current, well-worn furniture and without all the untidiness of teens is a great choice.
Clean surfaces, gloss lacquer, pale colours create a relaxing environment perfect for entertaining (in fact the dining room & sofa are two of the first rooms to get the contemporary treatment), and as they are choosing most of it around the same time it can be bought to go together, each piece designed to complement and work with each other.
